Thomas Gothorp/Gathorpe/Gorthorp/Gawthorpe/Gauthorpe, born 1777 at Skipton,Yorkshire enlisted into the 53rd Foot; on the 9th August 1803. He transferred to the 7th Garrison Battalion 2nd November 1806
The 7th Garrison Battalion was formed 1806 and consisted of men from the 2nd Battalions 53rd, 61st & 69th Regiments
On the 31st August 1808 transferred age 31 to the 2/84th at Athlone for limited service (7 years) being paid a Bounty of £10/10/-
Description a weaver by trade; 5’5; fresh complexion; oval visage; hazel eyes; brown hair.
Served in Captain Urquahart’s Company in Scheldt, receiving Walcheren Prize money £-/18/6¾.
Later served in Ireland before going with the Battalion to the Peninsula
Re-enlisted at Limerick on the 11th November 1815 for unlimited service
Discharged as a Kilmainham Pensioner 17th December 1817 on reduction of the Battalion having served 14 years 126 days
