12th December 1817 was the effective date of disbandment of the 2/84^th with a reduced strength of 22 Sergeants; 2 Drummers and 404 rank & file it transferred as a Depot to the 1/84^th who were at that time serving in India

Between 16th December and 21^st December 1817; the remaining 301men comprising sergeants, corporals, drummers and men were discharged, of these 5 men had 14 years or more service and  56 men had 7 years or more service
